Yes, Emily, I think I am starting to capture the whole essence of Romanticism. That is Freedom. I look at this painting and see the freedom you describe, then look at Frost at Midnight by Samuel Coleridge (477-478) and see the freedom that he longs for his baby to have.
Line 54 “But thou, my babe! shall wander like a breeze
By lakes and sandy shores, beneath the crags”.
That surely is the message, Be free! and celebrate the freedom that we fought so hard to bring you.
