Well yesterday was not the best day to take photos, but I went out just the same as I wanted to try out a new tripod I bought during the week. There is still a lot of smoke in the sky and the sea mist made things not so sharp as I would like. Catherine Hill Bay was formerly the main port that was used to transport coal to all parts of the world. It has been closed for many years now. The town is an old town with workers cottages. Unfortunately developers are encroaching on the area and it is no longer as secluded as it was. Here are some of the photos I took.

I took these photos a while ago. I was making use of my insomnia. At 4 am one morning I walked down to the beach and took these sunrise photos. The colours have not been altered. I may have experimented a little with the aperture and shutter-speed, but as the sun rose above the colours and then was hidden again from view, the colours changed. A man stood on the beach singing worship songs and welcomed the new day. Joggers worshiped their own bodies as they ran past, oblivious to the beauty that was emerging beyond. A plane takes off, with the start of the new day, new adventures await those on board the plane. The rowing crew pauses for a breather and watch as God paints the sky. I included a few photos from the other side of the bay, which I took at Sunset a few nights later. I have presented these photos as a slideshow. Enjoy and feel free to share it.
So where do you think you lost it?
I don’t know, if I knew that, I would go back and get it.
Think someone nicked it?
I don’t see how, it’s been in my bag all day.
What are we gonna tell the kids?
Let’s not tell them. The room is paid for; we have got enough in your wallet for food, and the beach is free. Let just enjoy our week away and worry about it when we get home.
Do you have to tell the banks and card companies?
No, I left all the cards at home so we couldn’t overspend, except…
Except the card which grandpa gave me to spend while we are away.
They both laughed. Poor grandpa had not been with it lately. He gave them his old blockbuster card by mistake.
The Sydney Sketch Group is going through the whole Alphabet this year, sketching in suburbs of Sydney. This week it was B for Balmoral. These are my 2 watercolours, naive style, from the day. I got a bit sunburnt on the day and am feeling the effects of it still a few days after.
I spent a great day on Sunday, sketching at Balmoral beach. I took these images on my Samsung phone. A perfect Summer’s day in Sydney.
In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Early Bird.”
I love to get up early to capture the sunrise. I did so again today but enjoyed life waking through my eyes instead of the lens. I held a cup of coffee instead of a canon.
Sculptures by the Sea is an annual event held in Sydney Australia where sculptors are invited to exhibit their pieces along the clifftop walk between the iconic Bondi Beach and Tamarama beach, with others actually on Tamarama beach and in the park surrounding.
Here is a small selection of the 240 photos I took of some of the sculptures lining the clifftop.
