No adjustment was made to colour this photo. It was taken just on sunset. This is a photo I took of where I used to live. It is called Vales Point in Mannering park, on the banks of the incredible Lake Macquarie, north of Sydney. Take a look at this now as it may no longer exist. One of the bushfires that ravaged NSW this week tore through this little place, and all along the eastern shoreline of this magnificent lake for about 45km. Fires destroyed hundreds of homes and have taken lives. Wildlife’s only hope was to jump into the lake, where they were rescued by volunteers from WIRES (Wildlife rescue) and other volunteers and taken to the other side of the lake where it was safe.

  1. Hi Dave,

It’s sad to think of what the animals suffered. Nevertheless, bushfires are a part of natural ecology.

We used to go swimming and boating on Lake Macquarie, when I was a kid. My Pop had a house there, my uncle still does. I learned to row there, then later to ski. Happy Days!!!

One of my new short stories is about being a kid @ Lake Macquarie. Or else Awaba, if you use the Koori name.
